Distracted Driving
Texting, talking on a cell phone, applying makeup while driving: These are all examples of distracted driving. According to a recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 20 percent of all motor vehicle crashes in 2008 were caused by some form of distracted driving.
The NHTSA report concludes that more than half a million people were injured in auto accidents involving a distracted driver. A study by the University of Utah found that the use of a cell phone delays a driver's reactions as much as having a .08 blood alcohol level.
